An automated catwalk should be selected from the operating envelope, not from a product name alone. Confirm these eight inputs before requesting a proposal.
1. Operation type
State whether the equipment will serve drilling, light workover, heavy workover, sidetracking or live-well workover.
2. Rig-floor or wellhead height
Provide the vertical height and the reference point used for measurement.
3. Horizontal geometry
Show the distance and alignment between pipe rack, catwalk, rig-floor edge and well center.
4. Tubular types
List drill pipe, tubing, casing, drill collars and any other items to be handled.
5. Tubular dimensions
Provide outside diameter, length range and connection details where relevant.
6. Maximum single-joint weight
Use the heaviest actual joint, including accessories that will be conveyed with it.
7. Required cycle and operating sequence
Explain how tubulars move in both directions and where manual intervention remains.
8. Controls, utilities and site requirements
Confirm hydraulic and electrical supply, local or remote control, communication interface, hazardous-area classification and ambient conditions.
